  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, orange zest, and orange juice, mixing until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, ground cloves, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until the dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  7. Flatten each ball slightly with the palm of your hand or a fork.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges turn a light golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra citrus punch, drizzle a simple orange glaze over cooled cookies or sprinkle with coarse sugar before baking for added texture.
