Hot Buttered Rum is a classic, cozy cocktail combining warm spiced rum, butter, and sweet spices to create a rich and comforting drink perfect for chilly evenings.

  • 2 oz dark rum
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • Hot water, to top
  • Whipped cream (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a heatproof glass or mug, combine the unsalted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  2. Pour in the dark rum and stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Top the mixture with hot water and stir gently to combine.
  4. Garnish with whipped cream if desired and sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on top.
  5. Serve immediately while warm and enjoy the comforting flavors.

Notes

For an extra decadent touch, try using spiced rum instead of dark rum or add a cinnamon stick as a garnish for stirring.
