Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed and cut
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions

Instructions

  3. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add mushrooms and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.
  4. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir to coat. Slowly whisk in milk and cream, cooking until thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Stir in soy sauce, season with salt and pepper.
  6. Combine green beans with the mushroom sauce and transfer to a casserole dish.
  7. Top with crispy fried onions and bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  8. Remove from oven and let sit 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the mushroom sauce or use a mix of fresh and canned fried onions for better texture.
