  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.

  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to soak all pieces.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Remove the casserole from the fridge, drizzle melted butter over the top.
  8. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup.

Notes

For added texture, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top before baking, or add fresh berries just before serving.
