Classic Lasagna

This Classic Lasagna features layers of rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella baked to perfection, delivering a comforting and hearty Italian favorite.

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté until translucent.
  4. Add ground beef, cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  7. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
  8. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, then spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over noodles, followed by 1/3 of mozzarella and meat sauce.
  9. Repeat layering two more times, ending with meat sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let rest for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a layer of sautéed spinach or substitute ground beef with Italian sausage.
